SOME THOUGHTS AT A DISTANCE OF 30 YEARS

Anyone can enter, through the comments to this "post" their thoughts, reflections at a distance of 30 years.
is recommended not to be offensive. In that case I will have to perform my duties as moderator.

In Irpinia 30 years ago as an Eagle last year. Andrea Salandra
The Apennines dancer sometimes it just repeats these tragedies. Italy trembles.
For my scientific training it is a fact of nature with which man has not yet learned to live and / or manage : first of all with the prevention and management of the event as it happens.
So it would take more investment in people and the creation of a true culture of Protezione Civile e della prevenzione.
O il constatare come in un paesino, dove la solidarietà è stata sempre alla base della convivenza, si scatenino istinti di sopravvivenza tali da portare indifference, while some were concerned about their dead there were others who were anxious to recover their demijohns.
How can I forget the silly lights in the night roamed the rubble: jackals, even strangers, looking for something to take away.
Now after arranging their loved ones, everyone's concern was to recover the most of their things, their intimacy. A frenzy that spared no one among those who had their homes destroyed and their belongings, even the most intimate, at the mercy of all.
gathered around and tried to fix it somewhere safe. Who writes all accumulated the house of his grandfather, but then still having to get rid of everything after a few years.
impressive solidarity of the Italians, especially after the call of President Pertini, sent a huge amount of aid .. sometimes useless objects, or perhaps were left to the first people I met on the street, I was among the first to think of collecting many food in the center of fear.
How can we forget the first camp, the first trailer. The only trailer that people had seen until then was mine, when I descended to my vacation.
In the months immediately following the difficulties were enormous and the winter is particularly cold. With spring
life would have picked ... but the population, still stunned by the tragedy, was struggling. A bustle of volunteers from all over Italy, all over Europe.
traditions and behaviors that disappeared and turned into a very short time. A small community, which until then had lived with the values \u200b\u200bof a small country was confronted with people who came in place is not always a good end!
The rhythms of a small community, which until then had based its economy growing in the field, jumped.
Instead of resuming his work in the fields in the morning people was, alas, forced to stay until 10 in the country wait for the distribution of bread.
After the container sheet for the lucky ones were beginning to get the "houses of Zamberletti" as Aquila, last year, came the "case of Berlusconi" .. history repeats itself.
prefabricated wooden houses made by Rubner of Trent ..... Beautiful and expensive, they say!
Normally two bedrooms a bathroom and a small room with a kitchenette that had been hastily constructed near the monastery at the foot of the mountain, in the coldest!
With the reconstruction of the breakup of the country was emphasized.
urban settlements were distributed differently: St. Lucia at the most ....
The old landmarks were gone.
Disorientation value: however, resorting to the use of the car, however the sanmennese moved to meet up with friends "Under the Church" or "Above the Bridge" also recalled the old bar that had withstood the earthquake. All
have recovered their homes, some even more than that.
The prefabricated wood Rubner of Trent remained. A wise decision of the Administration allowed to profit from these traditional settlements, renting the cabins to anyone wishing to spend some quiet end week in the mountains.
Cassette holiday indeed. Unsuitable for those who normally would during the day due to travel to the land.
impressions and feelings often experienced from afar, while I enjoyed, I must admit, the convenience of Verona, where I came in, attracted by the birth of her daughter occurred one month after the earthquake .
I was tempted to return and why not practice my profession as a geologist who, remember, when I attended the University I found it difficult to explain in the country.
I thought of going to speculate on the tragedy of my parents ...
For me now, as then I think it was a mistake to delegate to local governments, until now used to manage small budgets, the management of dopoterremoto and particularly the reconstruction.
A healthy democratic principle difficult to manage in these situations.
In the days immediately following a radio interview I suggested that he asked me to join in a single settlement in the valley of the three villages destroyed: Laviano and Castelnuovo-Santomenna
If these three villages were merged into a single town hall things would be different and administrators would be forced to think and act bigger. Instead of 30 years after the emigration è ripresa e più di prima.

Buogiorno Professor,
are Tonino, I have since tried to express what I bring in from that 23 November 80, a testimony to the younger generation, for my children and the smiles you receive from those who perished in that tragic event, a wound still open adding the regret of not being able to be.
S EALTH Tonino.

"
Tonino.
I was there, on that tragic night in a few moments where it was swept away by the fury of nature, the life of 64 people in the same instant the same fury that swept everything up to that point was honestly and decently served to sustain the lives of us all. An eternal bow time, lasted 94 seconds, wiped out all that until a few moments before seemed eternal. I remember every complaint and every act of That evening, just as I remember every gesture of the days that followed. Often, in these thirty years I have left accompanied by the memory of words and the memory of the smile of each of the 64 victims. not forget them in this life and I hope to hug each of them in the other. WHY 'THE INITIATIVE AS COMMENTS

23-11-80/23-11/2010: A THIRTY YEARS FROM EARTHQUAKE AND NOT TO FORGET WHY, ESPECIALLY THE YOUNG , we know about this tragedy that struck Santomenna ON 23 NOVEMBER DEL 1980.
For young people will be a sad reflection, for people like me who has lived at that time, there will certainly be a nice memory when the images take me back to those bad times experienced by a community of Santomenna on a cold, almost winter evening of November 80, meanwhile the whole community "Irpinia", happy, at 19:20 on a Sunday television in the autumn followed Avellino-Juventus match report ... other times!
On this blog we would like to recall, without rhetoric, the 64 victims with their photos, their short memory and profile of the relatives and friends more expensive.
soon on this blog will be published the photo, the relatives and friends can leave a brief testimony to the memory / of their dead.
's testimony, more than four lines should possibly refer to the period immediately preceding the earthquake.
They must of course be signed and bear the indication of the degree of kinship / friendship reasons
The witness can leave a comment directly on this page of the photo, I repeat, immediately after the photo has been published .
The publication of the photo deve essere fatta necessariamente dal sottoscritto.
Oltre a quelle delle vittime we also publish a collection of meaningful pictures on the days immediately following the earthquake. We could have them published in a special section.
Anyone with pictures of situations, makes them interesting documents I have already following the directions given above.
All this, as well as on this blog, will be released through references, on Facebook pages that already talking about Santomenna: I mean those that already exist as the group "Santomenna" and "We Santomenna that we started from."
The City of Santomenna, which are required to support the initiative, efforts should be made for 23 November to find a public place where they can be submitted to all the testimony and Photos collected through this Blog.
Meanwhile, the Mayor Venutolo, very sensitive to this initiative, should be found on the premises, ie Santomenna, an official of the collection of documents that can interface with myself.
As Director responsible for the pages the writer reserves to moderate the publication material, especially the notes and comments if they turn out to be ill suited to the event.
Thanks to all who are willing to cooperate

Our Blog has attracted the attention of the friends of Caposele
Hello Mr. Calandra,
to bother to ask her willingness to lend a hand for a project we're working on now a month. Let me explain, and I and a group of friends we're through the blog http://www.selacapo.net/, organizing an exhibition of video-photo-text for the upcoming November 23 at the Palazzo Venezia in Naples, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the earthquake Irpinia and Lucania. We believe it is essential to remove a bit of dust to the memory and give us young people (who organized the exhibition was not born in 80) the ability to know what happened in those tragic moments. Turning Web
I saw that you have created a blog, well done indeed, to try to collect documents about it and since it originated in the Santomenna wanted to ask if he can give us some photos to use for the exhibition. In more than a month of work we have found a lot but find photos of the many countries involved is difficult so we thought she could help us in this regard. Hopefully
can count on his help and waiting for your response I send cordial greetings.

Dear Pasquale,
even before you write me I had visited your blog ... so much so that I "stole" a photo (Hurry up) ... very significant. I think we share the desire to get to the visitors of social networks .. then to the young so that they can, too, realize the great tragedy that struck Caposele, Santomenna and all other countries of the so-called "crater".
As for my blog ... hopefully growing (many contacts abroad .. in that sense I have one of the aims)
is public so you can use it as you want. It 'possible that on 22/23 November, thanks to the sensitivity of the fine. Santomenna and its Municipal Mayor Gerardo Venutolo, the content of my blog will be shown to the public. I live in Verona, but for those days I'll be in my country .. maybe we can meet.
Be sure to read "Reflections on 30 years later" that I hope will be enriched by other witnesses, especially the volunteers. I reciprocate the greetings Andrea Salandra

Here's what they write three former young doctors
Dear Mayor,
I do live only now after so many years, thirty, a life.
The day after the earthquake, always fond of a medical emergency, I ask a young doctor Messina to my dear friends Nino Lembo, Piedmont Hospital doctor today and Furio Pronesti medico a Melicucco RC di venire con me.

Dear Andrea, Carlo are from Verona. When we met here in Verona, at an event, I have come to mind the moments of our meeting, thirty years ago, along the road through the rubble and destruction.
We had come with campers, cars etc.. trying to bring help, but the severity of the disaster has now shown our helplessness, not only of material things they needed, but the solidarity of all.
remember your smile, your ease in receiving our support. Important moments full of humanity.
You were good. Greetings to all.
over the testimony of Charles Castiglione, Verona has always been committed to volunteer ....

Hello Salandra
In occasion of the disastrous earthquake and by referring to the amateur radio sponsored in memory of the terrible event I would send a photo made to me in a room of the Province of Trento with my radio equipment and for a couple of weeks I kept radio contact with Trent Fire Brigade under the command of the engineer. Saved in San Mango sul Calore.
In the picture are with his wife Valerie of one of our radio operator Trentino.
A special thanks to amateur ... their help was great.

The moving testimony of a military ... among the first rescuers

incredible event occurred thirty years ago in Santomenna (SA).
Sunday, November 23, 1980, I was nineteen and I was on leave as a conscript: I was at the counter of a pizzeria in Eboli, when, at 19:35, there is a terrifying earthquake.
managed to gain the door, which looked into the alley, where, during the run, I do not know how I found myself on the ground, got up and managed to reach a little square, in a shower of tiles, bricks and collapsing buildings!
... I went immediately to the barracks of Persia, and I tried to phone home to find mine, but without success!
... The Colonel, in a short time, convene the extraordinary gathering in the square, where we announced that: "... The situation is catastrophic, the affected areas are not well defined ..." then, on every vehicle available in the barracks, raises the military and send them on a mission to a destination unknown to them.
... We, in twenty-five, on a truck, we are the only ones to reach (at about 04:00), Santomenna a small mountain village on the border with Lucania.
The road entered the village at once, and disappeared into the darkness under the rubble. The lieutenant who was with us, ordered to wait for the dawn, because without a torch and other equipment needed, that we could not get us wrong.
that waiting was agony: the complaints that were heard in the distance, power, as, negative thoughts for no-news of my family.
"Finally," the first glimmers of dawn, in a surreal desert and we entered the village, there was a house or a street, everything looked like a dusty heap and kept shaking where you can see some body property emerge from the rubble!
loaned first aid to an elderly lady who heard him complain, helping it to emerge from the debris.
Meanwhile, a little 'later, a group calling us, claiming to feel a whine coming from under the rubble in the center right there, where before there was the alley.
Most of the group, however, felt nothing, and the scenario was very unlikely, as there was an expanse of high and compact debris that left no hope for survival, facing the walls were crumbling all collapsed, except a hanging much right where we started to dig in disbelief.
We did not have a reference precise, were removed a little 'trial and error, constantly begging for confirmation that the voice gradually begins to perceive.
The aftershocks, which were happening every ten minutes, they sent us constantly in panic and danced around the brick wall of tufa, which had by far exceeds the angle of fall, was strangely still standing.
of a sudden came the mayor with obvious despair that has supported and encouraged in the hole: a large part of the initial group was concentrated there in what was becoming an endless "crater two meters deep and four wide or five.
The voice became more noticeable, and it was that of a boy who was driving, at least three hours of digging straight to his ear, which eventually even if a bit 'bloody, we discovered.
The freed gently dusty face, began to see us, but the work was all but finished, it was necessary to bring out more of the large stone material that covered the body.
In the meantime tries to reassure that child about nine years, but with failure, as each shock, we left him alone in the crater: jump out to avoid being buried, thus cause the crying.

Quirino Hi
are Pasquale and I am writing from the island of Procida near Naples.
In November 1980 I was part of a cultural circle. As soon as he heard the news of the serious tragedy, trying to put at your disposal to do something.
We tried to involve as many people as possible gathering in a former church at the center island. Making up about forty boys and divided into two groups organized the departure. So with three cars for the group and after contacting the police, on 26 November, at dawn, he left the first group. So begins this unforgettable adventure. We arrived around 12.00 per
Santomenno.Lo was apocalyptic scenario, where the force was great but the disruption made by padrona.Cercammo to do everything we could: we mounted military tents, open road, and so on. We slept in the car tomorrow afternoon and then again for Procida and the second group was already on his way to give us the change. All this lasted about ten days, then the demands of work and family prevented us from continuing. We followed television for the reconstruction and we promised to return soon, but it did not ....
often speaks to review the beautiful / ugly adventure and each of us, with tears in his eyes, hoping that some time has been planning the pain of those gorni.
I enclose two photos taken on the fly, a small contribution can help you today hoping to make the "difference". In greeting
I hope that after all these years we can speak of a common Santomenna to visit for its natural beauty and not for the past earthquake.
Sincerely ...
Pasquale Quirino 16/11/2010

Also along this road, if we scroll down the list of victims for, there was a massacre.
E 'known that the earthquake has interests in a catastrophic way across the southern part of the country.
Feet coast, fortunately, was affected less.
I reserve the right to even give a scientific explanation of the thing, perhaps with a separate chapter.

For the moment I offer some photos of the main street (near Piazza Umberto Fontana and area): it was before and as it appeared to rescuers after the earthquake.
